Web Development
This is where it all began for me (well, really, it all began with teaching myself QBASIC on the Pentium90 I got for my 10th birthday) - the ability to see my work immediately come to life on screen, allowing me to share my ideas with the world, was something that truly captivated me, and still does!
I've designed and built over 20 unique websites for different clients, and while that part of my life is mostly behind me (portfolio websites being an exception) it's fundamental to where I am today. Since websites come and go (and I certainly hope the ones I made on Angelfire and Geocities are truly gone... I enjoyed animated GIFs a little too much at the time) I'll share some of the special ones.
Atelier Toronto
Spring 2021
The 2020 pandemic hit everyone hard, but in-person service providers were hit especially hard. My hairdresser opened their own studio right as everything locked down, and I wanted to help support them and keep my web development skills exercised, so I built this site pro bono (well, I'll get some much-needed free haircuts out of the deal). My hairdresser also has a graphic designer friend who wanted to help, so we worked together to build something simple and elegant.

Art+Pi
Spring 2020
I co-started a company with a friend, to make official what we hope we can do for a full-time living someday, and every business needs a website! We worked with a graphic designer to build a concept layout showcasing our capabilities and perspectives and I worked to ensure the presentation-style site looks great on every screen size.

UW Engineering Novelties Shop Online Store
Winter 2010 to Fall 2011
This project was initially conceived as a term project for an Interface Design course. The existing Engineering Novelties Shop online store was built off a common eCommerce platform which did not meet the needs of the shop, was significantly more complex than necessary, was difficult to maintain, and posed security risks for the rest of the Engineering Society websites. The purpose of this project was to create a simpler, more appealing website that would be easy for the Engineering Society staff to maintain.
My primary contribution to this project was the actual development of a working prototype. As I was also the VP Finance of the Engineering Society at the time (and thus oversaw the Engineering Novelties Shop) I had an added incentive to produce a prototype that would become usable by the Engineering Society.

LCVI Grapes Improv Team
Fall 2002 to Spring 2005
Through high school I was part of an improv team, and each year we had a new grape-centred team name. I gave my team an online presence, and really let my creativity flow. While absolutely dated, these are the sites poured my heart into the most.

I've preserved the past designs in a "Weekend at Bernie's" fashion. It might look like it's working, but don't poke it too hard. Also, good luck finding a browser willing to play Flash these days ☹

I finally took myself seriously enough to buy my own domain back in 2005. It started off as a front-end to market my professional web development services, expanded to include creative and functional endeavours, and then started collecting dust. This portfolio is my attempt at bringing it back to life with a more minimalist spirit.
